CAS> were pleased to be asked to provide a stage, sound and lighting for the re opening of the 200 year old (give or take 10 years) Column. The John Foulston designed column was being opened to the public after a lengthy restoration and Plymouths residents came from far and wide to walk the spiral staircase of the column and take in the views from the top.
Aside from the general official announcements and opening speeches the popular monthly Column Acoustic session (a regular event for us) made its way out of Devonport Guildhall’s Mayors Parlour and onto the outside stage. The usual eclectic selection of artistes this time involved Morris Men, Sea shanties and local heroes Crazy Arm, plying their Punk/Folk acoustically for the gathered crowd.
The crowning glory of the event was a projection onto the column depicting world events and changes from over the columns 200 years existence.

This projection was especially close to CAS>’s heart as we had worked alongside the Real Ideas Organisation (responsible for the redevelopment of the column) and The Media Workshop (responsible for the visual content) to source a suitable projector for this prestigious event. A Christie Roadster DS+14K-M, Stacking frame and a selection of lenses were supplied to RIO for this and future outdoor events and it worked superbly on the night for its maiden outing. An overwhelmingly positive and appreciative reception for the projection and firework display was led by the local residents and the people of Plymouth that attended. A superb job by all involved. Should you be interested in hiring this projector please give us a call or get in touch with your ideas.
